The fact that someone won $65,000 and the Madden championship with a punter at QB and not calling a single pass shows how much of a joke MUT and it’s community is.

    Posted: 25 May 2020 12:36 PM PDT

I really do hope that EA is embarrassed that something like that happened in their championship series. It's everything people who don't play MUT talk about as to why they don't play the mode. Broken players running broken plays all wrapped up in a clown on the other side with a controller in his hand.

[PC] [1/50] Join the National Simulation Football League!

    Posted: 25 May 2020 12:59 PM PDT

Hey football fans! Have you ever wanted to live the life of a professional football player? Now is your chance. Come create your own football superstar in the National Simulation Football League; a simulation football league that uses DDSPF 16 (a football sim engine).

In the league, you control only one player. You create your player based on certain archetypes like Speed Rushing Linebacker, Receiving Running Back or Man to Man Corner, and can put points into various attributes to improve your player at creation and over the course of your career. We have a Rookie Mentor Team, a group of people dedicated to helping you create a player and potentially become the next super star of our league!

After player creation you will work on improving your player and be drafted to a team in our Development League. You will spend a season on this team along with players made by other people learning the ins and outs of the league, and spending time together in the team's virtual locker room on discord. After one season you will then be drafted by one of 12 Pro Teams.

Now you may be asking, how does my player get better? Mainly through activity! You earn points by completing various tasks like a weekly activity check, season and game predictions, and weekly trainings. You will be able to spend your earned points as you want to improve your player, so that one day they'll have the chance to end up in the league's Hall of Fame!

All the games are streamed live on Youtube using DDSPF 16, so you will get a chance to watch your player. During the season we have games streaming each day, Monday through Friday.

This league is completely free and run by volunteers! We are a fun community of over 300 users controlling players in the league, which means we have tons of football fans. We have plenty of spots open for rookies!

We are in the last week of our 22th season. Conference Championships is today!, and Ultimus (the league's Super Bowl) is Wednesday. Then the off-season begins with all new players being drafted around June 6th. That is two weeks for you to prove to Teams that you deserve being drafted 1st overall. This is a perfect time to join! Come check us out and create your own Hall of Fame player!

Pass Protection needs to be revamped

    Posted: 25 May 2020 02:37 PM PDT

I really WANT to love this game, the "chess match" that is the game of football...I'm pretty much addicted to it.

So you can understand my INSANE disappointment when I see how much attention to detail the devs have missed when it comes to pass pro, while at the same time ramping up the pass rush at such a high rate.

    1. What ever happened to "Center Awareness"?

    https://www.madden-school.com/offensive-lineman-awareness-rating-impact-blitz-pickup-madden-18/

Personally, I LOVED the spirit of this idea, this was introduced back in '18, and it's either been nerfed or shelved altogether. The Center is the "brain" of the offensive line. This was meant to counteract the nano blitzes which had become en vogue at the time, but now with zero blitzing becoming the "new norm", center awareness and its overall impact should be an even BIGGER factor here. And yet we've still got players being able to "dumb out" protection schemes almost at will, putting the same amount of heat on the QB whether you keep in extra blockers or not. Truth is, leaving in more blockers puts even MORE heat on your QB, given that the anyone with a man assignment for those now blockers, join in the pass rush. (More on that later).

Side note: The "center awareness" concept should also apply on the defensive side of the ball. (MLB/Safety)

    1. Block and release assignments. (RBs/TEs)

This is where the devs can have the perhaps the biggest impact on pass pro. It's the "chess match" at its core. For starters, RBs in pass pro are "scanning" the ENTIRE defensive front, not just ONE guy. They start with whichever side their on, search out potential "threats" to block and work their way from the inside out. So if a lineman gets beat, they're the "cleanup man". The same thing also applies to TEs, but their blocking assignments are more "side oriented" given where they're positioned in the formation.

Side note: TEs and RBs split out need to be given the option of being motioned back to either side of the QB, this gives them better angles in pass pro. Yes I said TIGHT ENDS TOO, NFL teams do this all the time to help protection schemes. We can motion "left and right", all it takes is to allow users to motion "down" to bring them to the left, and "up" to the right. And we shouldn't be limited to "one motion" either...given that the defense will almost certainly adjust once you do this.

So, in block and release when that man is "scanning" and no defender presents themselves as a threat, they should automatically go out into their routes. Users have enough to worry about as a QB to have to worry about pressing the "release" button on top of that. A simple "2-3 count and release" will do.

    1. Rollout plays. (Slide/rollout concepts)

I've been pounding the table on this for a minute now. Teams at all levels ALWAYS slide their protection to the side the QB is rolling to, with the exception of designed naked bootlegs. So its beyond frustrating, when I call a slide or rollout, only for my QB to roll right into the edge rusher, while my o lineman just lets him do it. The purpose of these plays is to "move the pocket"...well the pocket isn't being moved, unless the o line moves WITH said QB. Why the devs decided to just let the line block straight up...is beyond me.

    1. RB play fake assignments.

There are some play action plays where the RB either blocks after the play fake, or goes out into a route. Well, players should be given the option to reassign that RB to do both, while NOT cancelling out the play fake. (Previously stated blocking options apply)

    2. Make Play Recognition (PRC) Matter

This may seem like a small thing, but it may be the biggest. Perhaps the greatest ally of pass pro, is a solid running game. Why? Cause if and when the offense does call playaction, the defense is still in "stop the run mode". Well, then how is it that whenever playaction is called currently, defenders are clairvoyant enough to know at the snap to drop back in coverage or go into their respective pass rush? Truth is, they shouldn't. Especially if their Play Recognition rating is low. You wanna have "thresholds" for players who rarely (I say rarely cause no player is right 100% of the time)...then fine. But your 75 rated play Recognition defender should be getting legit faked out by these and other misdirection plays. same thing applies to pass rushers. Playaction is meant to slow the rush, and RARELY does a pass rusher get an "insta-shed" on playaction. Don't care how much of a superstar they are. It just doesn't happen.

So, that's my take on how pass protection needs to be improved in this game. They're just a few ideas, and shouldn't require alot of research by the Madden team to work out the details. Truth be told the playbooks need to be scrapped and redone from the ground up anyways. One of the reasons why folks lean so heavily on "money plays" is cause there are so many unusable plays on every playbook, which are simply broken.

    Just my thoughts.

Quite possibly the sexiest play I’ve ever made in a game of Madden

    Posted: 25 May 2020 07:23 PM PDT

Is there a reason my face of the franchise player’s face turned purple?

    Posted: 25 May 2020 04:45 PM PDT

Its kinda' sad Madden hasn't been able to recreate football plays as smooth as this, and this is a 16year old game.

    Posted: 25 May 2020 03:58 PM PDT

Every problem I have with modern Madden, and why I won't buy another EA product..

    Posted: 25 May 2020 04:47 PM PDT

Lack of Depth- 10-20 years ago, Madden used to be one of the deepest sports games on the market… Now it's one of the most barebones games on the market..

Features that have been removed and never brought back..

    -Full, sign-able coaching staff

-18 training staff groups to sign with an overall scale

    -Full coach ratings/progression

    • All of the creation features, except create a player (Create A Team, Create A Stadium, Create a Fan, Create a Play, etc.)

      -Rename stadium or sign sponsorships

    -Full player wants

    -Dedicated retirement screen

    -Restricted FA's

    -Trackable historic stats/records

    -Mock drafts

-Live draft with fan reactions (boos/cheers)to picks/CPU trades in draft

-Draft grades (A-F scale) on how well you drafted

-Negotiable rookie signings with hidden overalls

-Training camp to progress player abilities

    -Local licensed news reports.

    I could go on..

And when EA is asked why these features aren't in modern Madden, they bring up the bullshit "Lack of Resources" excuse.. I'm sorry but do they seriously expect us to believe that shit?! EA is a billion dollar industry giant with hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue.. They DO have the resources to make a decent deep football sim, they just refuse to do so because it's not "marketable".. You want to see how deep a modern sports game can be?! Look at NBA 2K… Say what you will about 2K and their questionable monetization schemes, at least 2K's basketball games are really deep. Look at My League.. Everything that can happen in the modern NBA, can happen in MyLeague and then some.. MyLeague's biggest element of depth is the customization..

Even freaking Axis Football has a deeper franchise mode.. And Axis Football is developed by a two person team.. How come they have the resources for a deep franchise mode, yet one of the industry giants doesn't? If EA had the resources to get a stupid mode with celebrities in the game, they have the resources to make a deep franchise mode and a decent playing game.. Speaking of which..

Unrealistic Gameplay- If the NFL were serious about protecting the integrity and their reputation, they'd have yanked EA's license years ago.. I'd also argue that EA should be sued for false advertising. Because the gameplay is so laughably inaccurate to what we see on Sundays, that Madden doesn't even come close to being accurately labeled as a "Football simulation"

Fade Routes are impossible because it's not possible for your QB to throw the football in an arc over the defense… Instead, a LB or Safety will immediately pick off the ball.. You want to see how fade routes are supposed to work play APF 2K8… The notorious psychic defenders that have been a problen in Madden for years, are still as bad as ever

The passing game sucks.. In what league will you see a QB run 20 yards back and be able to deliver a perfect throw?!

The tackling physics are wonky.. It's all animation based.. Not even physics based.. Leading to goofy and unrealistic tackling.. or unrealistic missed tackles.. DBs taking unrealistically bad angles.. Even in some cases tackles that defy the laws of physics

The animations look robotic and stiff - I mean come on, EA has access to the latest cutting edge mocap technology.. Surely, the animations would look more natural..

Kick blocks are also scripted.. Compared to APF 2K8

Blocking IQ also sucks, lots of inexplicable missed blocks

Also, being able to spam the same broken ass money plays every play... If this were a real NFL game, you'd get blown the fuck out and fired because opposing defenses and offenses would adapt quickly to that play..

I could go on about this, but you get the idea.. If John Madden saw any of the modern games that bear his name, he'd be furious and demand his name be removed from the product.. Remember, John was furious at the original build of John Madden Football because it wasn't 11 on 11 football or the most realistic football game possible based on the current tech..

I'll say it...It's really pathetic that a game that came out 12 years ago (APF 2K8) is a much more accurate representation of Pro Football than the biggest football video game series in history. Here's a video of APF 2K8 gameplay, see how organic and natural it looks compared to Madden Yet another element where modern Madden falls short is presentation.

Stadiums all feel the same- For example, Kansas City and Seattle are supposed to be LOUD and crazy, yet in Madden they are no louder than any other stadium.. Home field advantage which is a big deal in football, is nowhere to be found

Underutilizing the ESPN license- EA still has the rights to use the ESPN license, branding, and graphics.. They just choose not to.. Imagine playing a night game using the full MNF graphics and commentators.. Imagine post game interviews, or a mid week Sportscenter show during Franchise.. discussing the latest news and stats throughout the league, and even showing highlights.. NFL 2K5, a 15 year old game had these features, so there is no excuse for EA not to do it, except for laziness..

No mouthguards or visors- There is no excuse for this..

Akward commentary- Seriously, the commentary feels robotic and akward, not even organic or reacting to moments in the game.. Brandon Gaudin still refers to the Chargers as the "San Diego Chargers", when they've played in LA for 3 years now!..

The sad truth is these complaints will fall on deaf ears, because unless it's MUT or "marketable", EA doesn't give a damn.. And because of the NFL's greed, we won't see competition to give EA the kick in the pants that they desperately need.
