I showed good plays from 2k now ill show dumb ones

    I ruined Madden for myself.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 04:29 PM PDT

I had actually been enjoying Madden 21 as a mainly offline franchise player, but I got the urge to play some older football games so I picked up All Pro Football 2k8 and Head Coach 09 and now I can't go back.

I just love how 2k moves and Madden feels still so stiff going back.

And then Head Coach 09 is like the perfect franchise mode. The way you bid on free agents, and actually negotiate with your players is perfect.

Also the league just feels much more alive with the pop up news clips of coaches on the hot seat, free negotiations and draft updates.

Plus undrafted free agents being a mystery until they've played enough is a neat touch.

There's so many little touches in both games. I can't believe how far football games have gone backwards in everything except visuals.

I really did think Madden 21's franchise was solid but damn does Head Coach blow it out of the water. It's a shame they never worked to implement a Head Coach style franchise into Madden.

    Fuck Madden

EA needs to just stop making Football games, all they ever do is remove good features and either never add them back. Madden 07 was such a good game. On the gameplay aspect, it was way less buggy, and smoother. On the franchise aspect, you had many many many features that were amazing and made the game so fun. There was so much to do, and the offseason was its own game itself. You could create a play, create a team, have defensive and offensive coordinator (which they seem to have added a watered down version of), you had player morale where players would demand a trade or hold out if they were unhappy with drafting or management. For example the Aaron Rodgers catastrophe that's going on right now, you could have stuff like that happen in your game! Of course there's always the excuse of "how could they do all that with the space, it's limited", but really they did so so so much with software that ran on the PS2! And they can't make a game even 1/4th as good on the PS5. One thing a lot of people give EA is their graphics, but tbh they don't even have that. If you look at games like NBA 2K21, and WWE 2K20, they are a whole 3 steps ahead of EA. And for WWE and NBA, their career mode and other modes are way more in depth and more fun to play. I just don't understand how a game made almost 15 years ago can be 10x better than a game made with the technology we have right now.

    Explaining how online ranking works

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 07:33 PM PDT

I've seen many people say the same thing, that online rank is just based on how many games you play, that is blatantly false. I'm ranked top 15 and can explain to you how it works after I studied it extensively.

You gain or lose points based on the outcome of your games. These are not evenly distributed, and winning streaks help elevate the points you get per game.

The false narrative basically assumes if you play a million games, you will be #1 rank even if you lose all those games, that is false, for example:

If you take 3 players who played 1000 games each -

The player with 200 wins will be ranked last, 500 wins will be ranked 2nd, 1000 wins will be ranked 1st.

The amount of games played only works to help the confidence interval of this rank structure (we would be getting into statistics if i go further so i'll keep it simple), i.e. the more games you WIN vs the games you LOSE (aka your ratio), the higher you will be ranked, you can't just spam a bunch of games and win just 1 of them and expect to be ranked highly, you will lose a lot of spots if you do that.

If you play 5 games and win 4 of them, do you expect to be ranked top 100 all of a sudden? Of course not. 80% of wins at 500 games played has a much higher confidence interval than 5 games played. So this stigma of "you're just ranked high cause you play a bunch of games" is a false narrative. You have to continually maintain a good winning percentage to increase your rank.

The higher you get ranked, the harder it is to increase your rank, you will begin seeing this once you get inside the top 200-500. Each game matters more, because wins are worth as much as losses once you get in the top 100, making the grind exponentially harder once you get in that top 100 range. A few losses one day and you will have to get a great winning streak to get back to where you were. To put it into perspective, i've had 15 game win streaks a few times this week and i'm still only advanced 4 spots the past couple weeks. I've seen players ranked under me with a lot more games played than me, so this is a legitimate ranking structure, or else I wouldn't waste my time explaining it and debunking the misconception.

Also, Madden filters out players who have a high disconnect rate. In previous Maddens, they would display your dc rate % when online still had a team select screen. They removed this due to the amount of players backing out of games once they see the team their opponent is choosing. a high dc rate in this years madden means you are unranked automatically, no matter how many games you play, you need to fix it to be ranked, which is why a lot of people ask why they're unranked, it's cuz they quit a lot without conceding, aka frequent sore losers.

How to bluff a play madden 21 next gen

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 09:02 PM PDT

Hey everyone getting back into madden after awhile off. When playing local multiplayer with two people on the same screen how do you bluff a play now. It used to be when you held down the button of the play you wanted and switched to another 3 plays by flicking down and the original one you pressed was the actual play called no matter what screen you ended on. I have been doing this but I end up not running the play I intended. Sorry for the noob question. Is this not an option anymore?

Sick Madden 22 Halftime Report Fan Concept

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 11:26 AM PDT

My biggest beef with this development team is their lack of attention to detail. New features that haven't been playtested enough or weren't well thought out from the start (my assumption, this year that'll be franchise mode staffing tree), cut corners, simple fixes that take years to make (see: franchise mode free agency navigation, injured reserve, etc.).

The jump to next-gen should be a major splash for any title in terms of presentation. I know some will say, "I just want the game to work, I just want better gameplay, I just want franchise fixed" but presentation (and UI/navigation!!!) is a huge part of a good franchise mode. It's almost 20 years since players started competing in online leagues, and they still need to lean heavily on discord and/or league management websites to create a unique and fun environment to interact within an online league.

I stumbled on this concept by a YouTuber for a halftime show and it touches on a few things I had said EA keeps missing on intro videos, presentation, etc. I flash back to NFL 2k5 with Chris Berman in the studio and honestly I didn't usually skip through those weekly recaps. I look at NFL presentations on the weekends and EA's version drifts farther away from that every year, not closer. The official simulation game of the NFL should replicate what you see on Sundays as far as presentation goes.

This kind of execution would be similar, and the fact that it's pieced together by a fan using existing footage just goes to show how it should be something they can work into the game...

    Couch CO-OP?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2021 02:51 PM PDT

Alright so I'm an idiot…. I haven't had a console in years and it's been probably 8 years since I've plaid madden.

My wife is a huge football fan and wanted to try madden. I figured cool, let's play some couch co op…

So is there no online couch co op multiplayer?

Can't seem to do it in H2H, I'm assuming MUT and online franchise will be the same?
