    Madden Franchise Simulator Observation

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 05:32 PM PST

Last night I created the GOAT RB and simulated his career, and after 15 years playing for the Patriots, he ended his career as the number 1 player of all time by a mile. This included 5 league MVPs, 6 OPOY awards, 5 Super Bowl championships, OROY award, a few 2000 yard seasons, and a host of other weekly awards.

I found this incredibly surprising because I was under the impression that the Patriots scheme and playbook was rather lackluster when it came to simulating running back stats. With that said, I decided today to test out a theory of mine to see if I could generate a successful season with a team that was known to be terrible in SIM.

I decided that I was going to try to win the Super Bowl with the stock Arizona Cardinals and simply make only TWO changes to the roster.

    1. Give Kyler Murray the traits I have observed to lead to better SIM success. This included Balanced Force Passes, Ideal Pocket Presence, Balanced Quarterback Style, NO throw away, Fights for Extra Yards, Covers for All Hits, High Motor, and Tight Spiral. These traits I have noticed over my time are essential to having a quarterback perform well in SIM.
    2. Give Kenyan Drake 99's down the board, made him 6'6 and 250 LBS, and gave him traits that I know to improve SIM success including; Aggressive Catch, Possession Catch, Run After Catch, Fights for Yards, Covers for All Hits, and High Motor. I also made him an X Factor with Spin Cycle and Human Joy Stick as his abilities.

After making ONLY these changes and not touching anything scheme related, playbook related, or any defensive players at all, I simulated the 2020 season using advance week. This is what happened.

    1. Kyler Murray had a pedestrian 31 TDs, 13 INTs, 3970 YRDs, 104.1 RTG, 67% CMP. This was contrary to what I had expected, because usually quarterbacks with the best traits will be top 3 in the league but Kyler barely cracked top 10.
    2. Kenyan Drake had an incredible 15 TDs, 1847 YRDs, 388 Passing YRDs, and 4 Recieving TDs. This was about where I expected him to be at the end of the season.
    3. Kenyan Drake was league MVP and won the OPOY award.
    4. The Arizona Cardinals had the number one ranked offense going into the playoffs with over 6500 yards and over 50 touchdowns.

The most surprising thing to happen however, was that the Arizona Cardinals made the playoffs in a wildcard spot with 11-5 season. I honestly have seen how poor the Cardinals have done in SIM and I initially thought that even with a GOAT running back and an adjusted Kyler, the poor playbook and scheme would be too much to overcome.

My next thought was that after simulating the playoffs, the Cardinals would go one and done. I was wrong however, and after simulating 3 playoff games, the Cardinals were in the Super Bowl going against the obvious Cleveland Browns. It was here that I realized I was definitely onto something. However, I knew that there was no chance we would beat the Browns so I decided to simulate the Super Bowl.

Imagine my surprise when the Arizona Cardinals destroyed the Cleveland Browns 39 - 16 to win the Super Bowl.

I'm not sure how much this all means as I have yet to do any more testing, but as a person who loves SIM franchise mode, I thought this was rather interesting. It seems that a good running back is much more important to the simulator then I had previous given credit for. I would love it you could continue the experiment, and give bad NFL teams a GOAT running back and see how far your team can get in SIM.

TLDR; Giving the Arizona Cardinals a 99 everything RB, and Kyler Murray ideal SIM traits, were enough to win a Super Bowl and have the number 1 offense. The RB won league MVP. It seems running backs are more important to the SIM than playbook or scheme.

(PS4) After 5 successful seasons, we have just redrafted new teams. We lost one guy, so Raiders are open! Starting up now.

Derrick Henry or Aaron Donald will be on the cover of Madden 22

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 09:10 PM PST

I'm basing this on the belief that EA probably won't choose a quarterback for the third straight year like Aaron Rodgers or Josh Allen. They like to switch things up every so often so I believe it will be either Derrick Henry or Aaron Donald. I'll be surprised if its another quarterback.
