Madden 22 is NOT GOOD - My Review

Don’t complain about the game then turn around and give EA your money. Nothing changes until their sales plummet.

Bought the pre order…. played the free trial….. canceled the pre order. Literally the exact same trash ass game NCAA Football can't come soon enough.

    Fuck this trash ass game

One of the dumbest things Madden has ever done was the Odell Beckham Jr Catch animation.

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 08:31 PM PDT

The catch he made against the Dallas Cowboys was amazing, I hated it as it was against my team, but we still won the game, however he still made one of the best falling backwards one handed catches in that season, and best catches in quite a long time. That does NOT mean every single fucking WR/TE should have that animation EA Sports. You know how Stupid Jason Witten looked doing that type of catch? It's so dumb lmao.

EA Access is a blessing, Allows enough time to remind yourself what a piece of shit game Madden (My review)

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 06:24 PM PDT

Even the menus lag, that's how bad this game is. Sometimes taking 15-20+ seconds to pick a play during challenges while the system tries to figure out you want to press X....?

Ai bouncing off 6+ tacklers because the game wants to keep it close.

You still can't pick up fumbles! We are in "next-gen" and if there is a fumble, the entire two teams go completely stupid.

Horrible tackling, sometimes you will snag someone and your player rubber bands, they skip around and keep going. Sometimes you will snag, it skips and then acts as you missed completely.

The same can be said for OL blocking, absolutely a joke how sometimes the AI will bend around your lineman to get a sack, or how sometimes the OL will simply engage and fall down.

It's a disgrace that there is no other football game, there is no way this is worth $69.00 this game is garbage.

Hook zone defenders still just stand behind receivers

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 09:30 PM PDT

What the hell was done differently from last year?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 03:49 AM PDT

Gameplay is literally the same, there's nothing different. Face of the franchise is really dumb considering you're already a 80 overall wr in college and you're not locked to your player. You still instantly unlock abilities, which leaves no real reason to play the franchise or FoF

Music sucks, about 5 good songs in total. The crowd is still garbage and belongs on the ps2. Customizing your player is still bland, they have the same faces and hair styles they've been had. I even think they removed a lot of them, or they're locked behind different faces.

It's still a game wired to push you to Ultimate Team. Which Ultimate Team is still pay to win, same thing as the last 3-4 years.

Small rant but wtf is the point of a signature celebration when a few players have them? Why not allow players to equip a signature to your created player?

The A.I hasn't changed either, it's bad on both sides of the ball. Blatant pass interference penalties just tend to happen from play to play and WRs watch the ball fly over their heads as well. What's the reason that refs aren't in the game?

I'm not sure why this isn't just a live service game, every game released is just a slight addition that doesn't actually require another game.

Please stop buying these games, won't get any better until their pockets feel it.

Im not a hater, i respect the progress.

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 11:47 AM PDT

This game is not as bad as eveyone here makes it. We asked for change and they are giving us changes. Im about 4 games in with 6 hours played and im satisfied. Francise is deeper with more layers. The game mechanics are upgraded. The ingame stadium feature is new and fresh. The coaching trees are fresh. Trust me its not an abomination like the last 3 to 4 years. People are just used to complaining and sheep will always follow sheep. Plus theres more features to come. Id say if youve been waiting on something new, are a fan of a good sim, go cop it. Imperfect people always want pefection smh.

Face of the Franchise Problems, and How EA Should Fix Them.

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 10:18 PM PDT

I, and many others, don't like the direction EA is taking Face of the Franchise. I played it as the new option for Middle Linebacker... and I hated it. This isn't me being a "hater". I genuinely think this is the worst Career Mode in any game. So much so, I decided to go to Reddit, and spend too much time typing out the problems, and how I would fix them.

    The problems with FotF.

    • This isn't YOUR character. This is you watching another character interact with his friends. Outside of mediocre appearance customization, there is no personal charm to be added.
    • Too many cutscenes featuring too many unlikable characters. This isn't YOUR story, this is a story of a shallow main character, and his two friends that you know nothing about, but are forced to watch nearly an hour of cutscenes.
    • The cutscenes are laughably bad. From the stiff, weird animations, to the laggy unsynced movement, its a disaster. I would be disappointed with this from an indie game.
    • Not enough Football. Too many pointless mini games. The only football you can play is Rookie Difficulty College ball where you automatically win 55-0. And to top it all off, you play both sides of the ball... Its not even player locked. Stop trying to copy NBA 2K
    • Too many loading screens. This rips the immersion out of the experience. When youre not watching 2010 cutscenes, you're on a loading screen.
    • Unrealistic story. You're automatically fed this Power Fantasy BS out the gate, meeting NFL players, getting endorsements, getting interviews. You actually play a full padded, charity event which is just promotion for The Yard.
    • The moments that should matter (winning the CFB championship, getting drafted, etc) all fall flat. Its not exciting. Its not immersive. Its so bland and boring. EA managed to make college football in a video game... boring as hell.
    • Not enough emphasis on Player Locking/immersion. I shouldn't be able to call my plays, nor have to deal with a terrible camera angle. This mode should feel different than normal Madden, and it doesnt.
    • The horrible, sporadic jumping around during the first real game. I played MLB for my first playthrough, and i would play one snap before it cut back to that awful simulator. Then it would hesitate for a second, and sim again. It continuously jumped between me calling a play, playing, and that sim. When playing QB this isnt a problem, but when dealing with sub packages and formations, this is a nightmare for MLB.
    • Unrealistic Narrative/feedback. My first NFL game, as a rookie, I recorded 5 tackles, 2TFL, and a safety. The game then proceeded to hit me with 3 scripted events and cutscenes talking about my "lackluster debut" and "struggles on the field". That would be a fantastic debut, and it actually made me salty as hell lmao.

These are steps I would take to fix FotF.

    1. Get rid of the cutscenes featuring dialog. These all look awful, they destroy immersion, and it causes too much waiting and not enough playing. I'm NOT saying kill the story, just make it purely text/picture based. You can still tell a compelling story, and have more branching options since we know EA can't render dozens of different cutscenes in a year.
    2. More Pre-NFL gameplay that's player locked AND challenging. I get EA wants to force the narrative of "You're the #1 pick and won the championship", but its not their story... Its ours. I don't want to win 50-0 in the CFB Championship.
    3. Drop all other gameplay except pre-NFL football and combine. No stupid drills, no The Yard advertisements, just football. The combine should come back and be meaningful, even if its the cheesy "press RT/LT really fast" like the old games.
    4. Make the story about OUR character, not EA's. I don't want to hear my character's voice. I don't want to be forced to say something in a cutscene I don't agree with. I have a vision for what I want my player to do/say, and when you railroad me down another path, I lose Interest.
    5. Overhaul the Camera angle. FotF is about YOUR character, not the team. Redesign the gameplay from the ground up, and it starts with a new, closer camera angle. We should be just over the shoulder and kitted with redesigned audio so we can hear footsteps as well as a "radar" to simulate peripheral vision.
    6. Overhaul the Gameplay. This should be a completely new, immersive experience, but its currently regular Madden but you can't change players. We shouldn't be able to call our plays, and we should get new features exclusive to FotF like slowing down time slightly in critical moments, stamina and personal morale, and the sensory changes listed in 5.
    7. Focus on our character in and out of games. Stop ripping us away from gameplay to send us to that god awful simulation screen. Show us heading to the bench and having a small graphic below showing how the other side of the ball is doing. The entire point should be highlighting a game from the player's perspective, not from a generic Madden perspective, but you can't press B to change players.

Overall, I can't be the only one who has these opinions. FotF should be about us, not some railroaded, terrible movie about 3 random people that leads to normal Madden gameplay, but worse.

I'm sure I missed some things, but its hard to think when you're heartbroken.
    EDIT: spelling and stuff

Yet another quick and dirty first impressions thread.

    Posted: 14 Aug 2021 12:36 AM PDT

Ok 22 on next gen does feel better gameplay wise compared to 21. Players are faster and it's not as sluggish. Now that I got the positive out of the way of boy where do I start? The UI is a reskin of last year with a different color scheme. Franchise is exactly the same with a few new menus. Instead of a coordinator asking you questions while you pace around your office it's now a reporter at a press conference. Same exact thing different window dressing. As is the offense and defense gameplans before the game and the skill trees for your coaches.

The vaunted "GameDay experience" is just a few reworked cutscenes before and after the game and the crowd has real audio sprinkled in. That's it. Still no referees. Sidelines look a touch better than last year. Commentary is still trash. Still hearing lines from 17. Momentum is a gimmick. A few bugs and glitches here and there but way better than at year at this time.

All in all wait for a sale or it to land on ea play after the seasons over. This game is not worth 70 dollars.

we need to do something about the soundtracks

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 03:57 PM PDT

ea should know by now that we don't want a bunch of corny rap songs that vaguely reference football and were written just to get on madden. what happened to the diverse soundtracks with rock and punk hits and artists the general public actually knew
