    Question for franchise players

    Posted: 11 May 2020 10:24 PM PDT

Is it just me or do the chiefs consistently do worse than they should in your franchises, at least the first few season. I basically always see them finish between 6-10 and 9-7. I never user another team in their division either so it's not like I'm giving them 2 L's a year

What Madden training thinks it's teaching us vs What it actually is teaching us

    Posted: 11 May 2020 10:04 PM PDT

What Madden training thinks it's teaching us:

    Important football concepts

How to identify and exploit coverages

    What it actually teaches us:

How to abuse checkdowns for useless 2 yard gains

Playing Cover 2 in the redzone for 8 straight downs is fucking stupid

There are 3,791 crazy 1-on-1 catch animations, but on the last rep you get none of them

    Never, EVER call curl routes

Madden does not realize that catching the ball past the first down line and definitely having control of the football while being in bounds should count as a first down

How to have extreme amounts of self-control and not chuck your controller across the room

Here is what I learned after simming Franchise for multiple years in Madden

    Posted: 11 May 2020 11:41 AM PDT

After being without Football for months, I decided to completely sim a Franchise while I worked.

The rule were simple, I would take over 4 unique teams (one for each of my friends) and I would only make Roster related moves, while watching one game per week (simulating the other teams) and then just be responsible for trades, pickups, releases, the Draft, etc. We played as 3 owners, and 1 coach.

    Played all games on All-Madden

Used Simulation for half the season and Arcade on the other half (spoiler, it made NO difference in scoring/big plays during the simulation)

    I picked:
    Vikings
    Eagles
    Patriots
Lions as a Coach(later to be Raiders, due to "firing")

    How the season went:

    Patriots

Patriots were the Highest overall in the preseason. My friend chose to start Stidham and send Brady to the Bucs, trading for OJ Howard and some draft picks. After trading Kyle Van Noy to the Eagles (agreed by both friends) the Pats bolstered even more draft picks for the upcoming draft. They were able to snag Vita Vea during the year. Pats would lose to the Jags (Led by Nick Foles) in the wildcard

Pats would go on to be very successful, their defense, mainly, carrying them to the wildcard, Stidham having a great first year in the air but even more suprisingly on the ground. Starting a 57 overall, he was upgraded to mid 60s.

By accident, we missed that the coach retired, so Mike Tomlin is now the coach

    Eagles

After losing WRs early, the Eagles started rough, losing a handful, eventually evening at 3 and 3 until the decision to start Miles Sanders full-time proved valuable. Eagles would go on to win division, although Sanders would be hurt right before playoffs. Eagles go on to Superbowl on the feet of Jordan Howard, who has spectacular playoff run, only to lose in the final moments of the super, which was completely broken by bullshit (will discuss lower)

    Vikings

A complete wash of a season. Nothing valuable happens. Despite leading stat categories in several places, my Vikes can't put up points (hey, just like real life) and in the most predictable way, miss the playoffs, going under .500 .. The real thing here, is that the computer gave Theilen a massive extension.. only to have my cap room be 500k for the ensuing off-season.

After Outscoring the division leading Packers 40 to 7, the Vikes would close their season with a couple awful losses, including one to the Lions, who would have their coach fired after 1 year due to disappointment.

After the season, Zimmer would be let go and Jon Gruden comes in.

    Lions/Raiders

Well, immediately fired after a disappointing season. No valuable things here. Literal train wreck. User Coach would be fired and only be offered a job as a Raider, which we took to keep it going.

In the following Off-season, the User Coach would low-ball Drew Brees AND Tom Brady (both who accepted a sub 5mil contract) and Antonio Brown, who in this reality still had 2 dry feet.

Season 2 has not yet been played.

    Key Points to callout

Madden has NO idea how to do a lot of things, but let's start with the basics

    • QBs have terrible pocket presence. Anybody who plays already knows this, but the lower the QB Awareness is, the longer he takes in the pocket. This lead to Fletcher Cox getting 7.5 sacks in 3 quarters
    • QBs who have low Awareness also run the ball more often. Stidham had more rushing yards than his running backs, most games
    • QBs with high awareness throw check-downs to covered RBs if WRs are not open.
    • Instead of walk left or right in the pocket, QBs will hard roll left or right (depending on handiness), sometimes several times in one play, making it look like they are trying to invent a new dance move. This gets them sacked 100% of the time.
    • RBs never hit open holds no matter what their ball carrier vision is. Dalvin Cook, on several occasions would flat out miss holes and run directly up the ass of the guy in-front of him
    • WRs with high Catch-in-Traffic seem to run into traffic more often than not. They almost never break down the field or make an attempt on passes that are not to them. Diggs and Jeffries lost more down field passes when thrown than lower-skilled players, like the entire Pats WR core (nix-Edelman who was hit or miss)
    • OLine still have no idea who to block when blocking downfield. Once they get through the hole, they often stop in place, stuffing the holes that were just made. Because chip-blocking is not a thing, OL are the cause for the computer to miss the hole almost every time.
    • DT animations either break through or don't. There is no in between. If you run near a DT engaged in a block, their tackle animation will get you every time, as was the case in the sim
    • DBs animations are dependent on WR animations. This is how the SuperBowl was lost. The WR sped up significantly during the catch animation and the DBs were all slowed down with no warning. Sometimes the DBs will flat out miss (96 overall Harrison Smith on multiple occasions would have an INT animation trigger, but then flat out would run up the field carrying nothing).

Separately, as has been the case since Frostbyte was a thing, WRs catch animation will carry them out of bounds on wide open passes.

Lastly, the most well known thing... Computers do NOT run to open field, they will zigzag up open field for some reason, almost looking to be stopped by the defense no matter way. Ball carrying is not a thing.

    So what does this mean?

In-game, watching a simulation is awful. You see all the game-breaking things happen all at the same time, without being able to control.

The stats are completely fudged. Overalls do not dictate the performance of these players. Stidham, as a 59 overall was able to throw against top ranked defenses with precision and able to run on their like Lamar Jackson. Watching a Sim, it almost throws everything that you know out the window. Matchups that should be absolutely shutdown like a 70 overall WR against a 95 CB or a 68 C against a 97 DT are completely random. Kirk cousins was the 42rd ranked passer... Despite having over 4000 yards.

Games will change if you watch them vs sim them. Watching the Vikings play the packers, the Vikings would go on to lose, despite having over 200 more passing yards, 100 rushing yards, and no turnovers, but later, simmed without watching they go on to win 40 - 7 with slightly less stats.

The Ravens Eagles super-bowl started 14-0 Ravens, then moved to 24-14 Eagles by halftime, then finished 35 - 31 Ravens. So what does that mean?

Well.. While watching the play by play, the game will do whatever it has to to keep the game close/watchable. This makes every single game look fixed. Having an amazing first half? Well, now Madden will break your arm. Losing by 2 Tds in the 4th quarter? Lamar converts 2 4th and 15s in the same drive to take the lead on a 40 yard bomb (closest DB being 9 yards away and running at half speed). Madden has the mario-kart effect of making you perform shitty if you did well early on, but when watching the computer, it's insane how often this happens.

    TL:DR

Madden has been broken for years, but if you watch a simulation of CPU v CPU, you will notice the flaws almost immediately. The stats don't make sense. Player Overalls do not match up what happens when you watch it played. The Cowboys still don't sign Dak in the sim.

    Sliders to stop the bullshit?

    Posted: 11 May 2020 08:22 PM PDT

I have an online dynasty with 5 friends and my one friend puts up ungodly numbers. 45 TDS a year with a WR.

All he does is scramble and throw the same play over and over. We beat the shit out of him every time he plays but I'd prefer this to at least seem real.

Anyway to stop this for the CPU?

He just rolls out and throws it deep. I picked it off like 6 times but the CPU is terrible with these exploit plays.

    Dev traits in drafts

    Posted: 11 May 2020 10:19 PM PDT

I was just wondering is there an average number of players with dev traits in a draft class? Like roughly how many players will have hidden dev traits and stuff, also what are the odds of having a super star X factor? If you can help thank you!

It's stupid to have 4 minutes for OT, Madden.

    Posted: 11 May 2020 08:01 PM PDT

Rules are already stacked against the team that kicks first. Add that to the fact that you're forced to burn all your timeouts if the other team are able to get even an okay drive together and it's essentially impossible to win if you lose the coin toss. It's absurd that on my first drive I have 30 seconds and no timeouts to try and score.
