I was so sick of the lack of upgrades to franchise mode that I made this my first year not buying madden. Instead I spent $60 getting an original Xbox and Madden 08. I think I made the right choice.

Madden 21 Face of the Franchise

    Posted: 20 Sep 2020 05:33 PM PDT

Not sure if anyone's already put this out there but what the hell is with this mode?

I will preface with this, I wasn't playing on a hard difficulty so I was able to pretty much blow through the competition on route to the NFL.

So how the hell did the make the mode appear as though they wanted to railroad your character to be mediocre?

    SPOILERS:

Both your character and Tommy end up going to the same college together where you both sit for two years before getting a shot. In those two years I have to assume that Tommy practiced as a wide receiver only because when the newly appointed coach O'Brian tells you both that you will be competing for the role of QB both you and Tommy seemed pretty shocked.... so this kid who has been playing WR for three years now is suddenly your competition for QB? Okay, sure.

So what does my guy do in his first start? Absolutely destroys the opposition, obliterates them with the best QB performance college football has ever seen. It's not enough for coach O'Brian though who continues this farce apparently all the way to the championships. Where again, I post stupid good numbers. So what does coach do? Decides to sit me for the national title game.... okay.

Tommy comes out of that game with us losing because his hearts about to give out again, I go in, dominate the entire second half easily guide our team to the win and title.

QB controversy over right? Wrong. On the day Tommy is supposed to get back after what we can only assume is a long stint in hospital again, coach stops by to let me know that he will be naming Tommy as the full time starter, that I just didn't do enough and that I'm welcome to stay my senior year and play RB or WR (are you serious?) or declare early for the draft as a QB where he says outlandishly with what I e shown I would be lucky to be a late round pick if at all. For real?

So I declare, I'm not gonna be disrespected like that by this dickhead, and I want it to be random rather than force my favorite team, lets see where the chips actually fall. Apparently first round..... to the Chiefs?????

So yeah, now I'm on the Chiefs as their first pick for some bizarre reason behind Mahomes. And because I ball out there clearly appears to be some kind of QB controversy in Kansas now but it's all good because Kelce has my back all the way, looks like in my 2nd season at the chiefs I'm being handed the starting role. But I had to sit through some BS cut scenes of how Tommy was entering the league now and looks to be a better player than me.

Yeah.... this mode did a really poor job of making any logical sense if your character actually plays well. Hot garbage for immersion.

Gotta love having 90+ short/mid accuracy and 57 trucking and getting bulldozer. Where is the logic?

    Posted: 20 Sep 2020 06:24 PM PDT

Is the game at least somewhat enjoyable?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2020 01:53 AM PDT

I'm willing to accept a lack of upgrades tbh, is the game at least the same as 20? Also if not do you think that the first of the big updates will fix the issues?

Madden 21 Jets Franchise: Ep 0

    Posted: 20 Sep 2020 09:52 PM PDT

    New York Jets Roster Breakdown:

I'm excited to introduce you all to the 2020 Jets Offseason Roster and my apologies for the tardiness. Before there are any preseason games (which will in fact exist), the roster will change with new free agent signings and trades. As there are new acquisitions, any changes will be noted along with relevant storylines. Let's get started!

To be frank, this is a bad team in every facet. The base, unchanged roster only has only 7 players over an 80. Yet, even though I'm a big Patriots fan and a fan of good, competent football, I like this team. They're young, there have good pieces to build around, and they have a reputation to work on. The strength of this team is in the defense and has been for the past few seasons. Gang Green, as they are affectionately called, isn't what it used to be, with the days of Darrelle Revis, John Abraham, and Mo Lewis long gone.

With Jamal Adams now in Seattle and Bradley McDougald in New Jersey, the secondary is severely weakened with Marcus Maye now headlining the group at an 82 overall. Maye will start at Free Safety, but with his great versatility and size, at 6 ft 211 lbs, he can move all around the field and will be expected to play on the strong side in some formations as well as in the box in nickel. Recently, Maye has started to blossom in his recent game against the Jets and will be a star on this defense. Maye, along with Brian Poole, who signed from Atlanta a season ago, are the only secondary players who are guaranteed a starting role going into camp. McDougald will start on the strong side, but with an annoying cap hit and no penalty, he may end up on the trade block and replaced by Matthias Farley. Sophomore Bless Austin will compete with former Colts Pierre Desir, Quincy Wilson, and Nate Hairston for the other starting corner position. Desir, who has struggled this year so far, will be dropped from his 80 Star dev rating to a 77 normal. Desir is one of two secondary players who will see his ratings changed, along with rookie Bryce Hall. Hall was seen as a projected first-round pick, yet due to injuries slipped to the 5th round. He will be raised to a 68 Star Dev and will see his injury rating lowered from its base 85. 3rd Round rookie Ashtyn Davis and should see playing time in the safety rotation and on special teams, while Bryce Hall will start on special team duties. Arthur Maulet and Kyron Brown will stick around for the preseason but have an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster.

The rest of the defense luckily offers more assurance on who should see significant playing time. With C.J. Mosley opting out for the 2020 season, Avery Williamson will lead the front seven in his 2nd full season with the team after an ACL tear last season. With him, recent acquisition Patrick Onwuasor and sophomore Blake Cashman are expected to play at off-ball linebacker. The position is thin, though, with Neville Hewitt being the only depth player. On the edge, experienced Jet Jordan Jenkins, who will see minor stat boosts, has a tall task leading a group of Tarell Basham, Frankie Luvu, and Jordan Willis. Rookies Jabari Zuniga and Bryce Huff, along with veterans Kyle Phillips and Harvey Langi, will compete for a role in camp, with Zuniga being an early favorite. The strength of the front seven is in the trenches with lots of depth and potential. Former 3rd overall pick Quinnen Williams shows a lot of potential at 78 Star dev and looks to be the future of Jets football. Four players will see rating changes on the interior defensive line. Steve McLendon will have the only dev trait change, moving to Star. Henry Anderson will see a stat decrease down to a 74, while Folorunso Fatukasi and Nathan Shepherd, who emerged as breakout run defenders last year, will receive minor boosts. Former Ram John Franklin-Myers provides depth and versatility on the interior with his quickness and should star as a rotational defender and special teamer.

The offense has seen a lot of turnover in the last two seasons, and a lot of turnovers, but has still yet to develop as expected. This offseason, the team focused mainly on the offensive line. In free agency, Connor McGovern was signed from Denver, George Fant from Seattle, and Greg Van Roten from Carolina. Of the three, only McGovern has locked in his starting role. George Fant will battle with sophomore Chuma Edoga for the starting Right Tackle position while Greg Van Roten will battle with rookie Cameron Clark at Right Guard. Mekhi Becton, who was the 11th pick in this year's draft, will start at Left Tackle and has gained a lot of buzz in the offseason, along with his father. While he will see a small bump in his ratings to a 73 after an impressive real-life debut, his development trait will be lowered from Superstar to Star. I expect Becton to be a franchise tackle and improve vastly across this series, but he is still a very raw prospect and should not have a higher development trait than the other top 3 tackles in this year's draft. Rounding out the line are veterans Josh Andrews, Conor McDermott, and Leo Koloamatangi, with the last opting out for the season.

The Jet pass-catchers have also rotated a lot recently, with only three players being drafted by the organization. The group is led by Jamison Crowder, the clear starting slot receiver, who is expected to be targeted often this season. Wideouts Breshad Perriman, Chris Hogan, and Josh Doctson were all signed as free agents this offseason. Perriman should start outside and offers a great asset to the team with his 94 speed. However, he will see his ratings decrease from a 75 to a 73. Hogan, on the other hand, is in a similar position to Bradley McDougald where there is a lot of youth at his position and offers very little to a rebuilding team. Doctson will not play at all this season after opting out. Braxton Berrios will play as a depth receiver and primary back-up of Jamison Crowder in the slot and rookie Denzel Mims will compete for a starting position on the boundary. Mims will also see a stat boost to 72 overall, including his run blocking stats. As depth receivers, Vyncint and Jeff Smith will look to make an impact in the return game if they make the roster. At tight end, veteran and touchdown celebration extraordinaire Ryan Griffin will compete with the troubled Chris Herndon for the starting Tight End role. As of now, it is Griffin's spot to lose, but expect to see a lot of two-tight-end sets. Trevon Wesco is expected to play in blocking roles and Daniel Brown offers a new element to the tight end position with 85 speed.

The backfield, while not being the strongest, offers a lot of hope. Le'veon Bell and Frank Gore lead the way at halfback, with reports of Bell struggling in camp this season. He is the Week 1 starter and will be one of the focal points of the offense this season. Gore offers insurance, and even though his overall will be lowered to a 77, his speed will be increased from an 83. Rookie La'Mical Perine is intriguing and should see major playing time in the preseason but will be accompanied by preseason free agent signings. At QB, another former 3rd overall pick will start in USC man Sam Darnold. Even though he saw ghosts last season, he will see a rating increase to a 75, have his speed increased into the low 80s, and be given Star dev. Starting Madden 20 with a 74 rating, he had a better season than his rookie year yet saw his overall decrease to a 73 this year. Darnold will start but needs to play well this season with his next contract looming. He is currently backed up by former "elite" quarterback Joe Flacco and Rookie James Morgan. Morgan is expected to make the practice squad, while Flacco, in an awkward position, may need to compete for his spot on the bench.

On special teams, Punter Braden Madden comes in with a 71 Star Dev, along with a starting job. Sam Ficken, however, is not guaranteed his roster spot with his low kick power and overall. Long Snapper Thomas Hennessy, with a 31 rating (because EA doesn't know what to do with Long Snappers), has earned a starting role on the team and will be a part of the final 53.

    Older Madden recommendations?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2020 01:37 AM PDT

I've gotten so burnt out of newer madden.. But I'm still loving my old NCAA games, so makes me want to go back to some of the old maddens and check the franchise's and player modes. Love in-depth franchise modes. I remember playing madden 08 for hours and hours but can't remember other ones well

Any recommendations ? I have a retro store with a bunch of old games and I have a ps2 and 360.
