(NFL Head Coach 09: Mr. Firesale) Week 4-5 Recap: Bye week, Dolphins vs Chargers

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 05:28 PM PDT

After a beatdown from the Patriots, there were problems that clearly needed to be addressed. Our QB and RB have been performing abysmally, and, if it weren't for our special teams coming in, we'd be getting blown out way worse than the score showed. As a result, we decided to trade two 70+ overall players away for 70 overall Lions running back B. Calhoun, and then grab a UDFA rookie QB out of Wheaton names Damon Adkins. He comes in at 23 years old, 68 overall, but 82 potential (this with Balanced QB philosophy ratings). He comes in with 90 throw power (max 95), 68 accuracy (max 88), 41 awareness (max 84), and mid to high 30's in speed, acceleration, and agility. He was instantly named the starter, because I'm not going with Chad Henne for QB ever, and Omar Jacobs has been an abysmal passer in his first three starts. Despite him having almost 300 rushing yards in his first three games, he needed to be replaced by a better passer after a 4 INT performance against the Patriots.

Now, after an additional week of practice, we come up against the San Diego Chargers, with the best O-Line in the League, one of the best running backs in history, and a solid QB. It was not going to be easy, it would either be a shootout or a blowout, and the first half solidified that opinion. By the end of the first half, the score was 31-24 Chargers, and LT had over 130 rushing yards. However, Rookie QB Adkins had been torching the Chargers up all game, having arguably one of the best rookie debuts in history. With this spark of confidence, and a brilliant halftime speech, the Dolphins defense held the Chargers to only three points in the second half. The Dolphins offense started to slow as well, however. They scored a touchdown in the third quarter, and then kicked a field goal to tie the game up at 34-34. Then, they got the ball back with less than four minutes remaining. This was it, this was the opportunity Mr. Firesale had been dreaming of. Slowly and methodically, the team started driving down the field. With a third down conversion left to go on the Chargers 34 with a little under two minutes to go, Adkins throws to his tight end Vernon Davis, who takes it up the sideline and into the red zone. Play by play, second by second, the Dolphins eat away at every Charger timeout, and were stopped at the one. Seeing that the clock had more than a minute on it, Mr. Firesale goes with an unorthodox playcall, they take a knee. On the two yard line, they toss it to the left, which loses another yard, but keeps the clock rolling. They call a timeout with three seconds left, and Jay Feely comes out to kick the game winning field goal. He had just made two field goals earlier this game, and this one was a chip shot, one of the few chances this team might have to win this season. The kick goes up, the clock winds out, and it goes through the uprights!

    Dolphins win!

Dolphins rise to 1-3, while the undefeated Chargers fall to 4-1.

Why are all the D-line men so good and O-line men so bad?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 11:59 PM PDT

So the draft classes keep producing good D-line men that can constantly get to the high 80's or low 90's and the highest-rated LT is 86, same with RT. Why is this?

(NFL Head Coach 09: Mr. Firesale) Week 6 Recap: Dolphins at Texans

    Posted: 03 Aug 2021 12:11 AM PDT

A close one the entire way. A tale of two offenses, one with no running game, and one with only a running game. Those Matt Schaub's stats may look decent, it was clearly not enough.

After a shootout across all quarters, Dolphins get their second win. 44-38.

Dolphins advance to 2-3, Texans fall to 3-3.

    Passing

    D. Adkins ('Phins) 24/41, 440 yds, 4TD's, 2 INTs, sacked 4 times

    M. Schaub (Texans) 19/32, 273 yds, 1TD, sacked twice.

    Rushing

    B. Calhoun ('Phins) 15 att, 36 yds (28 after contact), 1TD

    S. Alexander (Texans) 25 att, 177 yds (149 after contact), 3TDs, 11 broken tackles

    Receiving

    E. Wilford ('Phins) 7 rec, 148 yds, 2TD's

    V. Davis ('Phins) 6 rec, 115 yds, 1TD

    T. Ginn ('Phins) 4 rec, 87 yds, 1TD

    D. Anderson (Texans) 7 rec, 98 yds

    A. Davis (Texans) 6 rec, 92 yds, 1TD

    Kicking

    J. Feely ('Phins) 3/3, long of 47

    K. Brown (Texans) 1/2, long of 33

    Approval up to 72.

We are dealing with injury after injury. Our TE/WR Mike Peterson is out 1-3 weeks with a dislocated elbow, our rookie RE Philip Merling is out for 1-2 more weeks with a cracked leg bone. Mike Peterson has been knocked out of two games so far before this injury, sad to see him go for an extended period of time.

For some interesting league-wide news: Ernie Sims is still in the talks for League MVP through 6 weeks, despite being on a 1-4 Lions team. It might be because in 5 games, he has 48 tackles, 6 ints, 3 forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Arguably one of the greatest starts to a defensive player's season, I hope to see that pace continue, but unfortunately, he has to compete with Jeff Garcia of the 6-0 Bucs, who is off to a solid start, throwing 14 TD's to 3 INTs, while averaging 250 yards per game. But he's second to, the man, the myth, the legend: Tom Brady. He's off to an amazing start, his team is 4-1, and he has 17 TD's to 3 INTs, while averaging 326 yards per game.

For more award news: D. Adkins shoots up to third in the OROY awards, behind an injured M. Peterson, and R. Mendenhall of the Steelers. D. Adkins also shoots up to the 3rd best QB in the AFC, according to the Best QB award. The Chargers hold the top three spots for Best O-Lineman. Rookie Calais Campbell of the Cardinals leads for best Defensive Lineman.

In other news: Oakland is now 0-5, and tied with the Redskins at 0-6 for the worst team in the NFL. Though, of course, that award deserves to go to the Bears, who, while 1-5, boast a point differential now of 49-141. They are the lowest scoring offense in the nation by a full touchdown, and the team they're being compared to (raiders and lions) haven't even played 6 games.

Meanwhile: only two undefeated teams remain: the Bucs at 6-0, and the Colts at 5-0. It'll be interesting to see how this all turns out. Stay tuned!

What's the most insulting Madden 22 rating a player on your favorite team received?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 10:05 PM PDT

For us it's got to be Kyler at 82 overall. Feels too low and like they nerfed him with a throw power of 90 and 82 awareness.

What was your most miraculous win ever? Any Madden counts

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 03:50 PM PDT

I did a cupcake relocation franchise (which I discontinued) where I relocated the Jags to San Antonio. It was Madden 21, and my starting QB was Taylor Heinicke, against the Titans backup (Blake Bortles). This was also a fantasy draft franchise FYI so that's why Robby ended up there.

We faced a bullcrap "robo QB" kinda game from Bortles, who scrambled for the game winning TD with 20 seconds left I think.

Then, we moved a couple plays downfield. It was about 5-7 seconds left. Taylor's arm was crap, and we were far from field goal range. I threw up a prayer as deep as I could to Darnell Mooney. Flags flew in the moment of contact, Darnell caught the ball. And out of nowhere, Madden cheese saved my life. He broke the tackle, taunting all the way to the endzone.

The penalty was pass interference on the defense. I declined the penalty. No time left, and we won it!

Anyone know how to fix this? The screen resolution is fitted right and this is the only game with issues.

Am I understanding this correctly for EA Play Pro subscriptions in regards to Madden 22?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 07:58 PM PDT

We don't get Madden 22 as part of our Play Pro subscriptions on release date, AND it lacks some of the next-gen features? Because if so that's some absolute garbage.

(NFL Head Coach 09: Mr. Firesale) Week 3 Recap: Dolphins at Patriots

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 03:15 PM PDT

While the score as 38-31 Patriots at the Fourth, it was clear that this game was much more of a beat down than the scorecard suggested.

After O.Jacobs third interception, he was forcefully benched by Mr. Firesale so that he could keep his approval up. That didn't last long though. Chad Henne went 2-11 in his short stint as the starter, before Jacobs went in and threw a fourth INT that sealed the game.

Patriots win 59-31. Dolphins now 0-3, Patriots now 3-0.

    Passing

    O.Jacobs ('Phins) 10/21, 194 yds, 1TD, 4INTs, sacked 5 times

    T. Brady (Pats) 25/35, 390 yds, 6TDs, 1 INT

    K.O'Connell (Pats) 2/4, 20 yds, 1 sack.

    Rushing

    O.Jacobs ('Phins) 10 att, 66 yds, 1TD

    X. Omon ('Phins) 8 att, 21 yds

    L. Maroney (Pats) 19 att, 131 yds, 2TDs
