The Unlikely Career of WR Sidney Linsley

    Posted: 17 May 2021 06:49 AM PDT

Sidney Linsley came out of Stanford as a projected 6th round pick. The 5'8 reciever was deemed too small for the NFL. Nonetheless, the Los Angeles Chargers drafted him with their 6th round selection. He inked a 4 year, $2.52M contract, and looked forward to overcoming the odds in the NFL.

Unfortunately, Sidney's first season did not go anywhere near the way he'd hoped. Sidney ended the season with 6 catches, 57 yards, and 1 TD, buried in the depth chart. The 10-6 Chargers were bounced from the playoffs via a 7-28 L against the Patriots. Sidney and the Bolts both looked to next season hopeful for a little more success.

Unfortunately for Sidney, the Chargers used their first round draft pick (24th overall) on Greg Lashley, WR out of Utah. Going into the 2022 season, Sidney and Greg competed for the 4th WR spot, and shockingly Sidney ultimately won the job. He impressed coaches with his dedication during the offseason despite his putrid rookie campaign.

Sidney enjoyed a much more successful sophomore campaign. After an injury to starter Mike Williams caused some depth chart shifts, Sidney stepped up to the slot WR role and caught 58 passes for 620 yards and 4 TDs. In addition, the the Chargers went 11-5, thanks to their top 5 defense and stellar passing attack. Unfortunately, they were blown out in the wildcard for a second year in a row, this time at the hands of the Colts, 8-23.

Going into 2023, Sidney Linsley would once again be the starting slot WR due to injuries in the WR core. Unfortunately for Sidney, the WR room would quickly return to full strength, and he was once again delegated to 4th string, recording 11 catches, 134 yards, and 1 TD. Additionally, Justin Herbert would go down with an injury, causing the Chargers to stumble to 8-8 and miss the playoffs.

Sidney's 4th year and final year of his contract was suddenly upon him. Once again in the 4th WR spot, he would need to make an impression in order to get resigned or garner any attention in free agency. Sadly, stifled by a stacked WR room, Sidney failed to even get to 100 yards on the season. The Chargers disappointed, going 5-11 and missing the playoffs. Sidney's rookie contract expired, and he entered free agency for the first time in his career.

In free agency, Sidney surprisingly gathered decent interest, with many teams feeling that he was never given a true opportunity to show his potential. Ultimately, he chose Seattle, where he signed a 3 year, $10.7M contract. He would be catching balls from the legendary 36 year old Cam Newton, who had a late career renaissance, throwing for over 4000 yards and 35+ TDs in 4 of the last 5 years. After stint with the Rams in 2024, Newton signed a 1 year deal with the Seahawks for the upcoming season. Sidney would begin the season as the team's starting slot receiver.

Sidney Linsley broke out. The 26 year old finally enjoyed his first successful season, exploding into his prime with 61 catches, 1063 yards and 6 TDs. With a stellar offense led by Cam Newton, DK Metcalf, Tyler Boyd, and Sidney, the Seahawks finished 9-7 with a wildcard playoff birth. Sidney dominated in a win against 10-6 Dallas with 5 receptions for 125 yards and a TD. But Seattle's next opponent seemed insurmountable. They faced the Chicago Bears, led by 5 time Pro Bowler, 2 time Super Bowl Champion, 3 time Offensive Player of the Year, 3 time MVP, QB1 Justin Fields. To no one's surprise, the Cinderella season came to an end, with the Seahawks losing 21-31. Justin Fields would go on to win his 4th Offensive Player of the Year and 4th MVP, but would lose the Super Bowl in heartbreaking fashion to the New England Patriots, 28-31. In the offseason, out of spite, Cam Newton elected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, in order to attempt to end Fields' reign of terror in the NFC North.

This left the Seahawks with an issue in the QB room. This issue being that the QB room was empty. In order to resolve this they drafted Cooper Jacobs from USC with their first round selection. Sidney would begin his second season in Seattle as the starting slot receiver.

He once again enjoyed a productive year, putting up 51 catches, 811 yards, but only 2 TDs. Without Newton, the team struggled, ending the season at a terrible 5-11. (Newton ultimately failed to win the starting job in Minnesota, and the Vikings went 8-8. He later retired.)

Sidney was now 28, entering the final year of his contract with the Seahawks. After a disappointing rookie season from Cooper Jacobs, the Seahawks brought in 25 year old QB Dalton Austen to compete. Austen ultimately won the job, and would go into 2027 as the team's starting QB.

Disappointingly, the Seahawks' QB struggles continued, and Sidney posted a good-but-not-great stat line of 61 catches, 647 yards, and 4 TDs. The Seahawks again missed the playoffs, this time going 4-12. Meanwhile, Drew Lock and Adam Gase (both on the Titans) won MVP and Coach of the Year, respectively.

Despite the team's recent struggles, Sidney resigned with the Seahawks on a 4 year, $32.2M deal, with $19M fully guaranteed.

At 30, Sidney posted a decent season of 69 catches (nice), 765 yards, and 5 TDs, but Seattle only got worse. The team went 3-13 and again failed to make the postseason.

In a near duplicate season, Sidney posted 60 catches, 708 yards, and 4 TDs. The Seahawks improved to 7-9, but again missed the playoffs.

Seattle seems to be frozen in time, with no improvement nor any major changes in the organization. Next season, Sidney puts up only 603 yards and 4 TDs as he begins to reach the twilight of his career. The Seahawks go 4-12.

3-13. The Seahawks are cursed. Sidney posts 778 yards and 4 TDs in his final season under contract and is not resigned. He enters free agency for the second time in his career.

This time, Sidney is signed on a 2 year, $6.46M deal with the Buffalo Bills. With 23 year old X Factor QB Rashawn Woodson at the helm, Sidney hoped for some late-career success, and earned the team's starting slot WR position. Unfortunately, due to injuries, Sidney was out for most of the season, finishing with only 5 catches. The Bills went 6-10 and missed the playoffs.

Now 34 years old, on the last year of his contract, Sidney entered what would likely be the final season of his career. Unfortunately, he only caught 3 passes. ... But as a team, the Bills turned it around. They went 10-6, and somehow, they fought through the Wildcard, Divisional, and AFC Championship, and made it to the Super Bowl against the Green Bay Packers. The Bills won, 28-14. In a twist of fate not even Hollywood could write, Sidney Linsley hoisted the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in his career, in the final year of his career. After years of irrelevance with the Chargers, a dream season with SuperCam in Seattle followed by years of consistent play but no postseason success, the 5'8 35 year old's unlikely journey finally came to an end. He retired happy, and faded into Madden NFL history.

    Thanks for reading.

EA doesn't deserve its NFL license with the way they are currently making games

    Posted: 17 May 2021 12:00 PM PDT

Before I go in, I recommend watching some of SoftdrinkTV's YT channel has he has some great videos criticizing madden better than I do. (This isnt a Promo)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The madden franchise is one of the biggest sports games currently around as they have had a exclusive deal with the NFL since January 2005, preventing any other company using the names and likeness of teams in the league. Which is, in my opinion, is scummy. But, at the time madden was about to hit its peak and was an extremely good football game at the time. As you probably know, Madden is at an all time low with a Metacritic user score of 0.2 which is the lowest its been. Ever. Madden hasn't gone down in a slow decline, but with a hard crash. Us fans of the game of football and I'm sure the overwhelming majority of the Madden community are hoping that Madden may fix itself. Lets go back in time, to when the PS2 was the reigning champion of consoles and the new era was in the horizon.

    ESPN NFL 2k5 & APF 2K8

The year is 2004, before the license agreement, and It really put ESPN NFL on the map as an competitor as quote,

"They have dealt a fatal blow to the competition"

    - Game Chronicles, Travis Young, August 23, 2004

Which was backed up by the positive reviews from multiple sources like IGN, Gamespot, and Metacritic

It directly competed with Madden and included such things as smooth physics, realistic gameplay, and being the only football game I am aware of with first person football. On the PS frickin 2! Unfortunately it was not well liked at the time but in retrospect, it was a hidden gem. Madden 05 received similar good reviews and was yet another great entry in the series, and It wasn't even at its peak yet

Fast Forward 3 years, and Madden is the only game on the market which is about to make one of its best games despite the reviews, the deal is in place meaning that Madden is the biggest and one of the only games on the market and the last football game was 3 years prior, until they released All Pro Football 2k8 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Unfortunately it received mild reviews, despite that, the physics of this game is considered the best of many football games with the throwing, running, tackling, and even field goal blocking is all smooth as it can be, It included famous players such as Jerry Rice, John Elway, and O.J. Yes, that O.J. Additionally, It included Create-A-Player so if you wanted to make a player that wasn't In the game, go ahead. There are also a variety of mods for the game, so you can add new rosters or even real life NFL teams. This game would be the last football game 2k has made as of now.

    Peak Madden, (07 & 08)

Like with most games, despite neither of these games getting 10/10, Madden 07 and Madden 08 received decent reviews at the time, around 8/10, and they both released for last gen and next gen consoles, Madden 08 released on 11 platforms. Madden 07, which was better than 08 in some ways, included Create a Player, Create a Team, Create a Stadium, and Create a Fan, Create a Play, Superstar Mode, Training Camp, Historic and Franchise mode which includes Fantasy draft and the Tony Bruno Show. Pretty good for a PS2 game right? Madden 08 include most of the features here except for create a fan and the Tony Bruno Show but improve on Training camp things like bench presses. These are games from the PlayStation 2 era of games and runs an old engine. Is my point getting across yet? No? Ok lets keep going

    NFL Head Coach 09

If you want to see a play through of this game, check out Not The Expert's YT channel he is really entertaining and I totally recommend him for other older sports games too (This isn't a promo either)

Anyways, Head Coach 09 is like a really in depth basically franchise type game where you don't control the players, you make plays, train, sign, draft and basically be a head coach. It includes fully licensed staff all the way down to the trainer. Crazy right? It wasn't well received because it was very complex and you cannot play as the players, you only call the plays, but It is something I would love to see come back in a madden game as a Franchise feature or something but revamped so you can play as a play and not just sit there and watch all the time.

The Crash of Madden (Madden 13 - Present)

Here we are now, where the Madden series is at its worse, throughout these years, features that made the game great and unique are being taken away, only be re added in the future as "new". There are no longer physics in this game but animations that take away from the experience and realism, the development as clearly gotten lazy and all the work is being but into MUT, their cash cow. All a features that made franchise fun? Gone. Do you want to play with historic players? Play MUT and grind for days on end to get a meaningless card. Franchise is dumbed down to a minimum and the Super Bowl celebration has been reused since Madden 17, along with the same relocation menu since Madden 25. What happened to all the fun and unique features with this game. Why cant they do what they did on a 21 year-old console? Why are the so god**** ed lazy? I dont get it either. There are so many issues and bugs and problems to put here but we would be here even longer than we've already have.

    Conclusion/TL;DR

Madden, once considered king of sports games has taken a hard crash into laziness. I'm not saying anything like "NFL DROP EA >:(((" But I am only criticizing the company for putting so little effort into a game with the large potential to be great again, On the contrary, if EA keeps putting minimal effort into a game and STILL manage to make a large profit, I think that the license EA has should no be resigned as its not consumer friendly. All of those games from nearly 20 years ago are still better on a game that are running on now next-gen consoles and computers. All we can hope is that Madden 22 is better

Lets keep it civilized in the replies please.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the amount of bugs that came out of the new generation of games, It is horrendous and unacceptable to a great degree.

Franchise Mode crashes at season 2030

    Posted: 17 May 2021 06:29 PM PDT

Played 4 Franchise modes to the year 2030. Everytime after I complete game 13 it crashes the game and then I can not load any saved game.

When I go to upload a saved game, any saved game, the load screen comes up. Then it reverts back to the saved menu screen

To be clear that is any saved game...."autosave", current franchise, other saved games, doesnt matter.

    Any help would be nice

    Franchise Challenge.

    Posted: 17 May 2021 11:11 PM PDT

So I have a Madden Challenge that I MIGHT upload to YouTube. The challenge is that you take a team and replace all of the starting line up with custom characters. The custom characters have to be made after real life people with realistic ratings. Now here's the problem, I don't have a lot of people interested in being put in my challenge. I was hoping that there were some people here that would be interested. I simplified everything into a small survey. Thank you. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1MXCHkraIYN7a5fLFTSVHFRjPIVHY48rJ76ErRbReQTk/edit

    Edit: We have 4 QBs, 5WR, 1 HB, 1 Lineman, 3 SS, 1 FS, 1 ROLB, 1 LOLB, 1MLB, 2 CB, 1 DE, and 1 Punter.

Madden should have a start in off-season mode like NBA2K

    Posted: 17 May 2021 03:09 PM PDT

This is a feature id love to see Madden add. With two options to start at the beginning of FA or another option to start at the beginning of the draft.

I can't tell you the amount of times I couldn't wait to start a rebuild with a team only to have them fuck up the off-season completely.

Is this a feature y'all would like to see added? How hard would it be and what is the likely hood of us seeing a feature like this in the future?
